ANIMAL CONTROL

To protect the safety of our citizens, dogs are prohibited from running at large and if found will be impounded.

By-law 37-2009 is in effect regulating the control and keeping of dogs within the Municipality.

 

Pit Bull legislation is also in effect. All pit bulls must be registered with the Municipality.

Under the Dogs Statute Law Amendment Act, 2005 (Bill 132), a Pit Bull is defined as:

  1. Pit Bull Terrier
  2. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
  3. American Staffordshire Terrier
  4. American Pit Bull Terrier
  5. A dog that has an appearance and physical characteristics that are substantially similar to those of dogs referred to above.

Stray Dogs picked up within the Municipality of Lambton Shores
are taken to:
Sarnia & District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Non-domesticated animals (i.e. racoons, possums, skunks etc.) are dealt with through the Ministry of Natural Resources(MNR).
