WINTER STORM RESPONSE
During the winter season the Community Services Department’s primary objective is to provide safe passable roads for all its residents at all times. We use satellite weather forecasting and Doppler radar information as well as 24-hour road patrols to monitor conditions. The Community Services Department has also equipped all plows with a GPS system to locate and document winter maintenance throughout the Municipality.
Periodically, during winter months, the Community Services crew will perform snow removal procedures in the downtown area. Snow is removed in order to allow access to commercial areas and to allow for the free movement of traffic (both vehicular and pedestrian).
Priorities
The Municipality of Lambton Shores has assigned priorities to its road and sidewalk clearing activities. Those priorities are as follows:
- Major arterial roads, school bus routes, and downtown areas
- Collector roads and residential streets
- Municipal parking lots and recreational facilities
Parking Restrictions
Overnight parking is not allowed on Lambton Shores streets from between the hours of 2:00am and 6:00am all year. During the winter months this ensures we can completely clear streets of snow.
Lend a Helping Hand and Show Your Community Pride!
During winter months, snow and ice make walking very difficult. Please make the effort to help us keep winter walking safe for everyone. Here are some suggestions:
- Clear snow and ice away from sidewalks and driveways and aprons.
- When clearing snow from parking lots do not push it into adjacent public land, this includes sidewalks and streets. When you are clearing snow from your driveway, please keep this snow on your property.
- During and immediately after a snowstorm, reduce your driving speed to account for slippery road conditions as well as snow clearing operations.
- During thaws, reduce your driving speed to avoid splashing pedestrians and to prevent water from splashing onto the sidewalk where it will freeze into ice and become a hazard.
- Please do not park any vehicles over the sidewalk even a partially blocked sidewalk prevents the plows from doing their job properly.
- Please ensure that any structures are placed well back of the property line. The Municipality of Lambton Shores will not be held responsible for any damage done to any private structures that are located on municipally owned property.
Severe weather conditions and other factors may delay our ability to clear all Lambton Shores roads of snow and ice. Even when all of our equipment is at work, heavy or drifting snow may re-cover streets before repeat clearing is possible. We ask that you give us time to manage the snowstorm, but if you feel that our crews have missed your street, contact the Community Services Department.
