Voice your Opinion about Recreation and Leisure Services in Lambton Shores!

Recreation, culture and leisure opportunities play an important role in our community by allowing us to engage in physical activity and healthy lifestyles, interact with one another, and appreciate our natural environment.

The Municipality of Lambton Shores is undertaking a Recreation and Leisure Services Master Plan to ensure that the Municipality’s provision and management of recreation, parks, open space, leisure and culture programs, facilities and services continue to meet the needs of our residents.  The Master Plan will identify community needs and establish strategic directions that will guide decision-making for the next ten years.

In order to ensure that the Municipality’s Master Plan is truly reflective of the needs of Lambton Shores, we want to hear from you!  In the coming months, there will be a variety of ways for the community to participate, including:

• A household survey will be conducted by telephone in late May and early June 2010.  If your household is called, you have the opportunity to provide input that will help us to understand your recreation and leisure needs and preferences.  Even if you are not able to participate in recreation activities as often as you would like, we still want to hear your opinion!

• A community search conference will help us to identify, discuss, and prioritize the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges related to recreation and leisure services in Lambton Shores.  The search conference will bring together diverse groups reflecting the Municipality’s overall sociodemographic composition in order to create a shared vision of their desired future.  If you are interested in participating, please let us know!

• A stakeholder group survey will be conducted to obtain information and opinions from local community organizations regarding participation levels, range of activities, key issues, and facility and program needs.

• Interviews will be conducted with Municipal Councillors, staff, key agencies, and the private sector to obtain input regarding the provision and management of parks and recreation services.  Discuss your opinions with your Councillor so that he or she is aware of your particular issues and needs.

• Public meetings will be held to define strategic directions and present the results of the draft version of the Recreation and Leisure Services Master Plan to the community.  By attending, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide opinions and help create the most relevant Plan possible for the Municipality of Lambton Shores.

The Municipality has retained the planning services of Monteith Brown Planning Consultants to prepare the Recreation and Leisure Services Master Plan.  The firm brings significant experience to Lambton Shores, having prepared similar studies for many municipalities across Ontario.
