THINGS TO DO & SEE: OVERVIEW
Lambton Shores is a small but growing municipality with a population just over 10,000. When you visit you’ll find a welcoming small town atmosphere, lots of friendly people, and plenty to see and do in our five communities:
ARKONA
Arkona is best known for its orchards. During the month of May, residents and visitors alike admire the beautiful blossoms on the fruit trees that decorate this small community. The Rock Glen Conservation Area is here, and offers a beautiful and peaceful location for hiking, exploring, camping or golfing at Arkona Fairways Golf Club, voted one of the best in Lambton Shores. The Conservation Area is also home to the lovely and serene Rock Glen Falls. Be sure not to miss this 30-ft spectacle!
PORT FRANKS / IPPERWASH
Both Port Franks and Ipperwash are located on the shores of Lake Huron, making these communities natural places to fish or boat. Ipperwash is the perfect place to view some of the world’s most beautiful sunsets. Spend a day at Ipperwash Beach or hike through some of Port Franks wetlands and sand dunes on the 11km walking trail system. Port Franks is also host to the popular Bluewater Anglers Annual Salmon Derby.
FOREST
Forest is the largest community in Lambton Shores. Visitors come from all over to try their luck at the 18 or 9-hole golf courses at the Forest Golf and Country Hotel. The Forest Amphitheatre at Esli Dodge Conservation Area plays host to the Music in the Valley festival as well as the Canada Day celebrations which attract thousands from the surrounding area. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, sit on the hill and enjoy these exciting outdoor events!
GRAND BEND
Grand Bend thrives during the summer season as families, residents and visitors alike flock to the lively Grand Bend Beach. Other attractions include exciting drag racing at the Grand Bend Motorplex and live theatre at Huron Country Playhouse. In June, try one of the famous mouth-watering burgers at the annual Optimist Burgerfest. With so much to do in Grand Bend, one day simply isn’t long enough!
THEDFORD
Thedford while a small community, has tremendous community spirit! Thedford is growing in popularity as a crafter’s and antiquer’s paradise – with a number of shops dedicated to these pursuits along the main street, along with the annual Fall Fantasia Craft show that takes place at the community arena each fall. Each year, the Thedford Spirit Club organizes Thedford Funion Days - a great weekend for the whole family to enjoy! As well, Thedford’s rolling hills provide the perfect landscape for one of the finest and most challenging golf courses in Lambton Shores – Widder Station.
