An Update from Mayor Bill Weber

Posted On Wednesday March 25, 2020

Hello everyone,

Earlier today, the first cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed by Bluewater and Lambton County Health at the Sarnia hospital. For weeks now, we have been warned by our Health Officials that the risk is real…if we were not all heeding the advice of experts up to this point, then NOW is the time to get on board.  If we truly care about our community and each other…then show it…by keeping your distance!

As many of you are aware, Premier Ford has recently announced the closure of all non-essential work places to prevent the spread COVID-19 in our communities. I know this is a trying time for our business community, as it is for all of us in our personal lives.  For those of us who need services offered by our local businesses, please respect their rules and limitations, support their efforts to keep their staff safe, and thank them for being there for you.

At this time Municipal Services are considered essential, and our staff members continue to adapt and refine procedures to ensure that service delivery continues. Staff continue to process development applications and are available to answer your service enquiries by phone or email. Please visit our Contact Us page for our staff directory. All Municipal facilities including Municipal Offices, arenas, community centres and senior’s centres remain closed to the public.

Garbage and recycling collection has been deemed an essential service. Bluewater Recycling Association is currently maintaining their regular collection schedule. They have released new guidelines for safe waste disposal during the pandemic. You can learn more about these new guidelines at the BRA.org.

I recognize that many of us are spending more time at home, and therefore more time in our yards, taking advantage of the pleasant early spring weather.  Staff have received many questions regarding leaf pickup and our Compost Site.  This annual program remains scheduled to begin in May.  Further information on this program and what we will be able to safely accommodate will be provided as soon as it is available. For up to date information on this or any other municipal service, please visit our COVID-19 Information Hub.

I must add my voice to those of the Prime Minister and Premier and advise everyone to listen and abide by the recommendations provided by our Health Officials. This includes keeping a 2m (6 ft) “social distance” from one another, washing our hands regularly, self-isolating when necessary and staying home when you’re feeling unwell.

I am hearing many stories of people helping their neighbours, and I know more and more residents are making an effort to limit direct contact with one another. The people of Lambton Shores are doing what needs to be done. Thank you! It’s during times of crisis where it is most important for us to work together.

Stay healthy, positive and safe.

Bill
