Canada Post Strike Update

The Canada Post strike action may impact the delivery of Municipal paper billing, invoices and other notifications – including water utility bills, property tax bills and invoices. There are contingency options available for residents and businesses to ensure bills, invoices, or Municipal notices are not missed.

It is the recipient’s responsibility to ensure that any amount due is paid by the due date.

Water/Utility Bills

During the postal service disruption, utility bills will continue to be issued and the payment due dates will remain unchanged. For those who receive their bills by mail, it is recommended to sign up for paperless billing to ensure you do not miss a payment deadline.

eBilling

Please use our online Property Tax and eBilling Sign Up Form to register for paperless billing. By signing up for eBilling, you will receive your property tax and utility bill in a PDF format to the email address of your choice approximately 3 weeks in advance of the due date.

Other Contingency Options to Receive Utility Bill Amounts

Residents and businesses may also choose from these additional contingency options to receive your utility bill details:

  1. Collect your paper bill in person at the Municipal Office (9577 Port Franks Road, Thedford, ON N0M 2N0)
  2. Call the Municipal Office to request your owed amount over the phone (519-243-1400 option 1)

Payment Methods

We strongly discourage making payments through postal services during the Canada Post strike, as mailed payments may not be received by the Municipality before the due date and you may face late charges.

There are several contingency options available for residents and businesses to ensure their payments are made:

  1. Payments by Credit Card
  2. Internet or Telephone Banking
  3. In Person
  4. Automated Banking Machines
  5. Pre-Authorized Payment Plan

Pre-Authorized Payment Plans

Signing up for a Pre-Authorized Payment Plan is an effective way to ensure you never miss a payment deadline.

There are two Pre-Authorized Payment Plans to choose from:

Option 1: Due date plan

  • Payments are withdrawn from your bank account on the due date.

Option 2: Monthly budget billing plan

  • The monthly property tax amount is based on your previous years' total or annualized taxes. This amount will be withdrawn from your bank account on the last business day of each month, except in December. You will be notified in writing at the beginning of January with the withdrawal amount for January through July, and once the final tax bill has been calculated you will be notified of the withdrawal amount from August through November.
  • The monthly utility amount is based on your previous years usage history or a predetermined amount set by the Finance department. This amount will be withdrawn from your bank account on or around the 21st of each month. The settle up month is September. You will be notified in writing of the settle up amount and the new withdrawal amount for the upcoming year.

To sign up for preauthorized payments, please complete the Sign up or Change Your Preauthorized Payment Plan form. There is no service charge or extra fee to enroll in either plan. If you are updating your banking information, please submit the form at least one week prior to the next scheduled withdrawal.
