Fall Update #2: Construction work was back in full swing this week as crews continue to make progress on replacing important infrastructure. Please continue to drive slowly and carefully through construction zones and observe and obey construction signage.

Week of September 5th work completed: Temporary roadway lanes, milling existing northbound lanes, watermain preparation at Oak St/Hwy 21, and jack and bore sanitary sewer works ongoing within South Huron.

Week of September 12th work planned: Sanitary Trunk Sewer on Ontario Street and continuing jack and bore sewer works within South Huron.

Fall Update #1: The Ontario Street North Reconstruction project will be starting up again next week within the Grand Bend limits. The project team is looking forward to a busy fall construction schedule in order to complete this project.

We appreciate the community's patience during this project and wish to remind the public to please exercise caution in and around construction sites.

Update #16: June 24, 2022

Summer is officially here! With the busy summer season now underway in Grand Bend, the Ontario Street North Construction project will pause for the summer.

On behalf of the project team we would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during the first half of the project. We will be looking forward to finishing this important project in the fall for the long term benefit of the community, but until then please have a safe and enjoyable summer. We will be back with construction updates starting again in September.

Week of June 20th work: Curbs and sidewalks on Ontario Street, asphalt paving on Ontario Street, traffic signal activation at Main/Ontario Intersection, line painting, and restoration.

Week of June 27th work planned: Minor restoration works, sodding, and cleanup.

Update 15: June 17, 2022

As we noted last week, unfortunately the contractor will not be able to meet the original June 17 shutdown date and work will need to continue next week. The contractor continues to have extra crews on site to get the project tidied up for the summer. Paving works and traffic signals are the next major milestones to be accomplished, which is scheduled for Monday. Please continue to exercise caution in construction zones.

Week of June 13th work: Watermain installation on Ontario Street, curbs on Ontario Street, fine grading on Ontario Street, electrical work within the Main/Ontario intersection, and restoration works underway.

Week of June 20th work planned: Asphalt paving on Ontario street, traffic light activation at the Main/Ontario intersection, sidewalks, and restoration.

Update 14: June 10, 2022

The final stretch of the construction project before the summer shutdown period is underway. This week we will be seeing curb and gutter and asphalt placed on Ontario Street as crews prep the road for the busy summer season.

Timeline Update: unfortunately, it appears that work will need to continue past the June 17th date to ensure everything is ready for the summer. However, the main intersection is scheduled to be paved and reopened with the normal traffic signals this upcoming week.

Week of June 13th work planned: Storm sewer installation on Ontario street, watermain installation on Ontario street, road excavation on Ontario Street, curb and gutter on Ontario Street, asphalt paving on Ontario Street, and miscellaneous restoration.

Update 13: June 3, 2022

The project team is happy to provide another update as the Ontario Street North Reconstruction project continues. Please continue to exercise caution and patience in and around the construction site.

Update 12: May 27, 2022

Many people have been wondering and asking about what the work in Grand Bend this spring will accomplish. We are pleased to share the below rendering, which shows the final configuration once construction is completed.

This will be accomplished over two projects:

  1. The first project is the Ontario Street North Project, which is the project currently underway. This project involves the completion of important utility replacements within the highway.
  2. The second is the Ontario Street Bridge Widening project, which is expected to start in late 2022 or early 2023. This project will add an additional traffic lane to the Ontario Street bridge and complete the lane configuration changes in the corridor.

Week of May 23rd work: Sanitary trunk sewer on Ontario Street complete to Oak Street, storm sewer installation on Ontario Street complete to Municipal Drive, and restoration works started.

Week of May 30th work: Storm sewer installation on Ontario street, watermain installation on Ontario street, road excavation on Ontario Street and restoration works will continue.

Update 11: May 20, 2022

This is the eleventh update on the Ontario Street North Reconstruction project. The project continues to make progress as we approach the first long weekend of summer.

Updated timeline: the May long weekend will look a little different in Grand Bend than previous years with construction activities in progress - but construction will be paused for the weekend. After this weekend's pause, construction will continue until June 17, 2022. At that point, the summer shutdown will start, with construction resuming in September 2022.

Week of May 16th work: Sanitary trunk sewer on Ontario Street, storm sewer installation on Ontario Street, watermain tie ins within Main Street and Ontario Street intersection.

Week of May 23rd work: Sanitary trunk sewer installed up to Oak Street, storm sewer installation on Ontario Street, watermain installation on Ontario Street, and restoration works south of Main Street.

Update 10: May 13, 2022

This is the tenth update on the Ontario Street North Reconstruction project. As the weather warms the project team thanks everyone for their patience and understanding as work continues.

Week of May 9th work: Watermain and storm sewer work completed in Main/Ontario intersection and continuation of the Trunk Sanitary Sewer on Ontario street to just south of Oak Street.

Week of May 16th work planned: Work planned for this week is continuing Sanitary trunk sewer on Ontario Street to Oak Street, storm sewer work on Ontario Street near Municipal Drive, and watermain connections at the Main and Ontario intersection.

Update 9: May 6, 2022

This is the ninth update on the Ontario Street North reconstruction project.

Please note that there will be a road closure on Main Street West on Monday, May 9. The closure is expected to begin Monday morning and may extend until the end of day on Tuesday, May 10, depending on weather conditions.

There will be a posted detour route, which runs along Queens Avenue, Oak Street, and Ontario Street North. Please drive slowly and carefully along the detour route, and avoid the area if possible.

Update 8: April 29, 2022

Stop here on red signal

This is the eighth update on the Ontario Street North reconstruction project.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed to direct traffic while work is done within the Ontario and Main Street Intersection. This setup is different than many residents may be used to at this intersection. The project team wishes to remind drivers to drive slowly as they approach the intersection, stop where indicated by the signs, and only proceed when the lights are green.

Week of April 25th work: Storm sewer outlet work, temporary traffic signals, and sanitary trunk sewer.

Week of May 2nd work planned: Work planned for this week is continuing Sanitary trunk sewer on Ontario Street, storm sewer works, and watermain work within Main Street/Ontario Street Intersection.

Update 7: April 22, 2022

This is the seventh update on the Ontario Street North reconstruction project.

The project team asks everyone to please continue exercising caution in construction zones.

Week of April 18th work completed: Storm sewer outlet work, watermain work south of Main Street, watermain Valve work on Ontario Street and starting Sanitary trunk sewer. 

Week of April 25th work planned: Work planned for this week is continuing Sanitary trunk sewer on Ontario Street, storm sewer works south of Main Street, installation of temporary traffic lights, and watermain work within Main Street/Ontario Street Intersection.

Update 6: April 19, 2022

This is the sixth update on the Ontario Street North reconstruction project. We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend.

Week of April 11th work completed: Storm sewer outlet work, watermain work south of Main Street, watermain valve work on Ontario Street and paving of temporary traffic lane on Ontario street were completed this week. 

Week of April 18th work planned: Work planned for this week is watermain connection work on Ontario Street, storm sewer outlet work, and beginning the trunk sanitary sewer on Ontario Street.

Update 5: April 8, 2022

This is the fifth update on the Ontario Street Reconstruction project. The project team encourages everyone to maintain a safe distance from all construction activities and please drive carefully and slowly through construction zones. There may be traffic delays and disruptions in the coming weeks as work begins within the Ontario Street corridor (Highway 21) and traffic lanes are reduced. Everyone’s patience and understanding is appreciated and will help to quickly and safely complete this project.

Week of April 4th work: The Jack and bore storm sewer crossing cleanup and maintenance hole installation started, watermain work continued, and removals and preparation work began on Ontario Street.  

Week of April 11th work planned: Work planned for this week is paving on Ontario Street for temporary traffic lane, storm sewer headwall and outlet works, watermain valve installations on 14 inch watermain on Ontario Street.

Update 4: April 1, 2022

This is the fourth update on the Ontario Street Reconstruction project. There have been many questions about the scope of this project. This project includes street reconstruction between Main Street and the north limits of Grand Bend.

The bridge replacement and widening project that is being planned in Grand Bend is not within the scope of the current project. The Municipality is hopeful that the bridge project will start as early as September 2022 pending progress on the current project, design work, and the tender process. 

Week of March 28th work completed: The Jack and bore storm sewer crossing of Main Street was completed and watermain valve and replacement work was completed south of Main Street. 

Week of April 4th work planned: Work planned for this week is beginning removals on Ontario Street, watermain testing south of Main Street, removal of jack and bore equipment, and storm sewer outlet works

Update 3: March 25, 2022

The Ontario Street Reconstruction Project is continuing to make progress. The project team is pleased to provide the third update.

Week of March 21st work completed: sending pit for jack and bore storm sewer crossing and watermain valve installations partially completed.

Week of March 28th work planned: work planned for this week is continuing watermain valve installations, watermain installation work south of Main Street, storm sewer outlet at Parkhill Creek, and jack and bore storm sewer crossing of Main Street East.

Update 2: March 18, 2022

The Ontario Street Reconstruction Project continues to progress with preparation works completed this week and planned for next week. The project team would like to remind everyone to please give the construction crews space to complete their work safely and quickly. Fencing, barriers, and pylons are placed to delineate safe work zones for the safety of the public and construction personnel.

Week of March 14th work progress: The storm sewer outlet sheet piling work has been completed and the first pit for the storm sewer jack and bore crossing of Main Street East has begun.

Week of March 21st work planned: The contractor will continue to prepare for jack and bore storm sewer crossing of Main Street East and will install watermain valving necessary for the completion of the project. Water disruptions will be occurring as the valving work occurs.

Update 1: March 11, 2022

The Ontario Street North Grand Bend Reconstruction Project has begun with some preparation works this past week. This is the first update of weekly updates. The project team is hopeful these regular updates will be helpful for residents and businesses to be informed as the project progresses.

Week of March 7th work progress: The contractor placed project signage, completed utility daylighting, and began work on the storm sewer outlet at Parkhill creek.

Week of March 14th work planned: Contractor will continue work on storm sewer outlet including sheet piles, preparing removals and pits for jack and bore road crossing of Main Street East, watermain valve preparation work
