Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Blue Coast District School
Groundbreaking has officially taken place for the new Blue Coast District School, a Kindergarten to Grade 12 school to be built in Forest.
Lambton Shores Mayor Doug Cook attended the event, which included remarks from Lambton-Kent District School Board Director of Education Gary Girardi, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault, and Lambton-Kent District School Board Vice Chair David Shortt.
“The groundbreaking ceremony marked an exciting chapter for Forest, Lambton Shores, and all our surrounding communities,” said Lambton Shores Mayor Doug Cook. “The Blue Coast District School is the result of years of hard work, community advocacy, and collaboration across several levels of government and represents a major investment in our children’s future.”
The $74-million project is funded by the province and will include child care and EarlyON rooms in addition to the 1,100 student facility. The school will support students from the communities of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, Lambton Shores, and Plympton-Wyoming.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Girardi noted the project should take approximately two years from the time construction starts. The tender for the work closes in November.
“This project is a testament to what can be achieved when community, school board, and government work together. I look forward to seeing the work continue as construction begins,” continued Mayor Cook.
