Public Notice for Ipperwash Area water users receiving drinking water from East Lambton Shores Distribution System (Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System)

Lambton Shores will be completing a construction project on a Standpipe in the town of Arkona which will impact the drinking water supply from the East Lambton Shores Distribution System (Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System). This work is scheduled for July 7 to September 30. 2025. During this project, your drinking water will be supplied by the West Lambton Shores Distribution System (Lambton Area Water Supply System).

The water you will be receiving during this period of time contains fluoride at levels recommended by Health Canada, and in compliance with provincial regulations. Fluoride levels are monitored on a daily basis and any exceedances will be reported and followed up. Lambton Public Health monitors the levels of fluoride in Lambton County's municipal drinking water systems pursuant to the Ontario Public Health Standards and in accordance with the Safe Drinking Water and Fluoride Monitoring Protocol, 2023 (or as current).

Community water fluoridation is the process of monitoring and adjusting the naturally occurring fluoride level in drinking water to the recommended and optimal level to prevent tooth decay. According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, community water fluoridation continues to represent an important, safe, cost-effective population-based preventive intervention that contributes to oral health equity by providing protection from dental caries for everyone despite their age, education, income, and access to dental care (Office of the Chief Dental Officer of Canada, 2022).
