Statement on Recent Ipperwash Beach Activity

The Municipality of Lambton Shores is aware of recent activity along Ipperwash Beach, including the removal of wooden bollards located within the municipal right-of-way.

The Municipality recognizes and respects the historic and ongoing significance of Ipperwash Beach to members of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, including their traditional use and right of passage along the shoreline. The Municipality will continue to work collaboratively with Lambton Shores residents and Kettle and Stony Point First Nation to support all efforts to openly discuss solutions related to beach access and stewardship.

“We recognize the complexity of the situation, and I am thankful to have a positive relationship with Chief Kimberly Bressette to help us better understand potential conflicts over beach access,” said Lambton Shores Mayor Doug Cook. “We remain committed to working collaboratively and respectfully as we move forward.”

Municipal officials are in regular communication with representatives from Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, as well as other partners, to ensure that discussions remain respectful and that public safety is maintained.
