Communities in Bloom

Communities in Bloom is about greening through environmental, natural heritage conservation and horticultural actions that involve citizens, businesses, institutions, and municipalities. The program is focused on environmental stewardship through enhancement of green spaces.

2025 Theme: Edible Gardens

Communities in Bloom Canada invites you to join us in exploring our Theme of the Year: Edible Gardens. Growing your own food is a powerful way to support sustainability, enhance local ecosystems, and build stronger connections within our communities. It also provides a meaningful response to the challenges of food insecurity. This year, let’s focus on creating edible landscapes that nourish both people and the environment. Together, we’ll plant the seeds for a greener, healthier future!

Lambton Shores' Programs and Achievements

The Lambton Shores Committee was established in 2007 after a few volunteers and staff attended an information session on the Communities in Bloom program to determine if it was something the Municipality should venture into. After receiving Council approval, a committee was formed and the rest is history!

This year's colour selection is Shades of Pink with white. We look forward to seeing all the beautiful shades of pink with white throughout the municipality this year!

Pink symbolizes love, nurture and compassion. It evokes feelings of comfort, warmth and hope.

The municipal hanging baskets will feature:

  • Supertunia Vista – Bubblegum

  • Supertunia Mini Vista – Hot Pink

  • Supertunia Vista – Silverberry

  • Vinca Vine

Help Keep Lambton Shores Clean!

Each year on or around Earth Day, Lambton Shores Communities in Bloom encourages you to help clean up your neighbourhood after the long, cold winter. Everyone is encouraged to keep the initiative going throughout the year! If you see trash on the ground while you are out in your neighbourhood, pick it up and throw it in your trash receptacle.

Adopters are responsible for watering, fertilizing, dead heading and weeding. Committee members are happy to provide advice where needed!

Interested in becoming an adopter? Email events@lambtonshores.ca for more information.

This year's planters will contain Bubblegum Supertunia Vista, Hot Pink Supertunia Mini Vista – Hot Pink, Silverberry Supertunia Vista and Lime Green Sweet Potato Vine.

Native Trees

Lambton Shores Communities in Bloom continues to encourage the planting of native trees in our community. Many areas are impacted by invasive species such as LLD Moths and Oak Wilt. Click on the links to learn more and what can be done to help with these problems.

The Lambton Shores Committee has proudly put our community on display for all to see since 2008. The timeline below will take you through their many successes with the program:

2008 Lambton Shores competed for the first time at the provincial level and received 4-Bloom rating out of a possible 5. We also received the Floral Display Award.
2009  Lambton Shores took another crack at the provincial level and successfully achieved a 5-Bloom rating. The Community Involvement Award was also presented to Lambton Shores that year as well.
2010 After receiving a second 5-Bloom rating at the provincial level, Lambton Shores was invited to compete at the national level in 2011 .
2011 Lambton Shores competed with communities across Canada at the national level that are similar in size. We achieved a 5-Bloom rating and were finalists for the Environmental Award.
2012 Lambton Shores successfully won their Population category at the national level. We also received a 5-Bloom rating, the Community Involvement Award and were finalists for the Youth Involvement Award.
2013

Moving on to the next level of program, Lambton Shores competed in the Class of Champions category, a category where Canadian communities who have won in the Population category compete amongst themselves. Lambton Shores once again found success with this category, taking home the top prize and receiving a 5-Bloom rating.

2014  Next up was to take Lambton Shores to the International Challenge, where we competed with communities from around the world that are similar in size. This higher level of competition proved to be a challenge. We retained our 5-Bloom rating and came home to plan for the next judges' tour.
2015  The Committee decided to take a year off from the competition to develop new strategies and programs. Lambton Shores remained in the Communities in Bloom program in the Circle of Excellence, but at the non-evaluated level.
2016  Lambton Shores competed in the International Challenge once again and this time, won their Population category. We also received a 5-Bloom rating and won the Tidiness Award.
2017  Without a category to compete in, Lambton Shores entered into the Circle of Excellence, non-evaluated category. The Committee focused their efforts on the programs they already brought to the community.
2018  Lambton Shores entered into the final level of competition - Grand Champions - a category where past winners of Population, International Challenge and Class of Champions compete amongst themselves. Lambton Shores was selected as the winner of this category and achieved a 5-Bloom rating once again.
2019 After achieving success at all levels of the competition, the Committee entered into the Circle of Excellence, non-evaluated category, and focus their efforts on new and existing programs and projects.
2020 Lambton Shores entered into the Circle of Excellence, non-evaluated category once again and will continue to focus on existing programs and projects.
