2026 Municipal Election Joint Compliance Audit Committee

The Townships of Dawn-Euphemia, Enniskillen, St. Clair and Warwick, the City of Sarnia, the Municipalities of Lambton Shores, Brooke-Alvinston, the Towns of Petrolia and Plympton-Wyoming and the Villages of Oil Springs and Point Edward are recruiting experienced professionals to be considered for appointment to the Joint Compliance Audit Committee.

About the Committee

The Compliance Audit Committee is an independent committee required under Ontario’s Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Its role is to help make sure campaign finance rules are followed during municipal and school board elections.

If a voter believes a candidate or registered third party may not have followed the election finance rules, they can apply for a compliance audit. The Committee reviews these applications and decides whether an audit should take place.

If an audit is approved, an independent auditor examines the campaign’s financial records. The Committee then reviews the auditor’s report and decides whether any further action is needed.

This process supports fairness, transparency, and accountability, and helps maintain public confidence in the municipal and school board election system.
