Licensed Short-Term Rental Hosts

To renew an existing Short-Term Rental Licence, please submit the online Short-Term Rental Licence Renewal Form.

Hosts are strongly encouraged to submit their Short-Term Rental Licence renewal application at least two weeks before the expiration of their current Licence to ensure the renewal is processed in time. Advertising or operating a Short-Term Rental with an expired Licence may result in fines as outlined in By-Law 43-2022.

The expiration date is listed on your Short-Term Rental Licence. If you renew before the date of expiration, your Licence Renewal will be valid for 12 months from the date of expiry (and not the date you renewed).

There are two documents that must be posted on-site in a prominent location at your short-term rental (e.g., in the foyer near the front door, on the fridge, etc.):

1. Short-Term Rental Licence (provided to you as a PDF by the Municipality)
2. Plan for Fire Safety (as provided to the Municipality in your application)

There are two documents that must be provided to guests before their stay:

1. Renter's Code of Conduct (view sample Renter's Code of Conduct)
   • A document provided by the owner/host that sets out the roles and responsibilities of the renter, including behavioural expectations as they relate to non-disturbance, and identifies applicable Municipal by-laws that the renter must comply with, including the parking management plan and occupancy limit related to your short-term rental
2. Renter's Information Package (view sample Renter's Information Package)
   • You must provide a Renter's Information Package to at least one guest/renter in advance of their stay. This document must include:
     • Contact information for the Responsible Person
     • Instructions for the use of the 9-1-1 emergency system, which includes the municipal address of the short-term rental
     • Name and address of the nearest hospital or emergency medical services providing emergency care
     • Plan for fire safety
     • Non-emergency contact for the OPP
     • Instructions for solid waste disposal, including the waste collection day and instructions for composting and/or recycling
     • Schedule of common offences and related fines associated with renters (download the By-Law Infographic)
     • Copy of the Short-Term Rental Licence, occupancy limits, and parking rules

It is the Owner’s responsibility to ensure they have someone available at all times while the Short-Term Rental is being rented. Owners are encouraged to have more than one Responsible Person identified, and should a temporary Responsible Person need to be added for vacation coverage, it is up to the Owner to provide this information to the Municipality within a reasonable timeframe.

The Municipality may send a courtesy reminder ahead of your Licence’s expiration date, but this is not required. All Short-Term Rental Owners are encouraged to set calendar reminders for the expiration date of any licence, and the Owner is responsible for ensuring their Short-Term Rental does not operate without a valid Licence.
